Leila Makes started as a place for me, Leila, to share my makes, mends, work-in-progress projects, and whatever craft I felt like trying out. Now, my hope is to grow this place into a hub for the maker community - a place for helpful DIY resources, pattern hacks and reviews, and soon enough patterns by yours truly.
I am a veterinarian by trade, working on large, small, exotic, and wildlife animals.
But the more I dove into sewing my own clothes, the more time I carved away time to learn about sewing techniques, patternmaking, and just making things in general. I’ve dabbled in wheelthrowing, block-printing, natural dyeing, marble dyeing, knitting, and I’m sure more crafts to come :)
I started sewing when I was a kid and went in and out of sewing projects throughout my teenage years.
I landed on quilting when I was in veterinary school to give myself big projects to focus on when I needed a school break. Once I graduated and went into practice, I was ready to shift my focus to sewing garments and haven’t looked back since. Now, I sew my own clothes, accessories, and the occasional quilt.
